Butler Signs Contract With Miami

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Former Mountaineer forward Da’Sean Butler signed a partially guaranteed contract with the Miami Heat on Monday, starting a three-way competition for the last spot on the team’s roster.

Butler is the Heat’s 18th player under contract going into training camp, and he will compete against rookie guards Kenny Hasbrouck and Patrick Beverly, both having already signed two year deals.
The 2010 Big East Tournament MVP has not been cleared to participate in the initial weeks of training camp due to ongoing recovery from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered during a Final Four game against Duke last April. Doctors believe that Butler’s knee will be fully healed in time for both formal workouts and the NBA season, however.
Butler averaged 14.3 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists in his 146 game career with West Virginia. He was the 2010 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award recipient, and was one of ten finalists for the 2010 John R. Wooden award, which is awarded annually to the National Player of the Year in college basketball. He also finished as the third-leading scorer (2,095 points) in West Virginia history behind Jerry West and Rod Hundley.
Butler is one of two West Virginia players taken in this year’s draft; forward Devin Ebanks was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers. They are the second and third players drafted at West Virginia under fourth-year coach Bob Huggins.
